Hello again SWA Ski and Snowboard Club!!
As I write this, we're only 24 days from the start of our first NAASF SKi Week in Jackson Hole, WY!! I can't wait to get back on the snow, and with all my friends in the ski clubs!!
This will be your source for news and updates concerning our
ski club, the NAASF, IASF, and No-Brainer ski weeks. I'll post
"Messages from the President" on our website, www.swaskiclub.com and, on our Facebook page. But this, and many other emails to follow, will be your official source for ski club news.
Before getting too far ahead with our business. I'd like to take a moment to say Thank You! To Kelli Summers-McDonald for all the wonderful work she has done during her term as our president. We're going to miss her this coming season. But, she has relinquished the responsibilities of president, for those of "Mom"! Congratulations to Kelli and Paul on the birth of their beautiful baby boy!!
I also owe a very special Thank You to Peter Grosserhode. He has single-handedly taking over the responsibilities of our webmaster. And, has done an awesome job of it!!
So, looking ahead now to Jackson Hole. I hope everyone is ready!! You already have the itinerary from NAASF, lodging and lift ticket info is available there. And, is viewable from our "winter schedule" link on our website. Don't be like me and wait until the last minute to book your lodging. Couches are for sitting, not sleeping!! What you may not know about the Jackson Hole NAASF ski week. Is that, Shelley Mateu and the AirTran ski club has invited us to join them for Team Dinner nighton Tuesday, Jan 11. Here's a copy and paste of her invitation...
"I wanted to see if you'd be interested in doing a joint team dinner in Jackson Hole. Well, considering how small we are, it's more like "can the handful of us at AirTran hang out with y'all." But here's the deal. My sister used to date a guy who's now the Executive Chef at Sweetwater Restaurant in Jackson (2 blocks off the square). I've chatted with him and he's agreed to/very interested in all of us (both teams) hitting there for dinner that Tuesday night. What do ya say? Would you be up for something like that? www.SweetwaterJackson.com. There's not going to be many of us and we usually hook up with the JetBlue peeps because we're both kinda small. Sweetwater can hold about 40-60 people (I think) and my buddy Trey (exec. chef) said they'd do a special menu and price for us. If there's enough people, we could snag the whole place for the night."
I think it's a wonderful idea and, a very nice gesture on her part. Please take a look and let me know if you plan on attending. More SKi Club business.... I'll keep you updated on news concerning the Steamboat NAASF ski week. I loved that resort and, can't wait to go back!! Then, shortly after that, we will be meeting in Heavenly, CA. for our "No-Brainer". I'll send an email out soon with info pertaining to that only.
Just a few quick items about that event. I've invited the Airtran ski club to join us. We always have so much fun at Heavenly! More friends joining in on it can only make it better!! I'm also considering booking a lake cruise one night for our team dinner. Drew and I did this a few years ago, and it was very fun! Drinks, dinner, music, and dancing!! And, of course. The Spectacular views of Lake Tahoe!!!
When you browse through our new website, you'll notice a printable
flyer. USE IT!!! print up several and tack them up on every bulletin
board, in every crew lounge, maintenance break room, ramp ready room,
ops room, farm house, chicken house, out house that you see!!! (got
carried away there, had a Tommy Lee Jones moment) Our ski and snowboard
club isn't for SWA employees only. It's open to our friends, family,
neighbors. Anyone that loves to have fun, and share in the wonderful
camaraderie that we have enjoyed for so long!
I had mentioned on a Facebook page posting about SWA ski club beanies. I have the idea. However, I'm artistically challenged!! If anyone has some thoughts as to a design for them, share it with us please! I also want to order a new SWA Ski and Snowboard Club banner. Only, I'd really like it to be made of cloth. Much easier to carry and transport. And, Kevin Vaughn can't tear it up by using it as a sled!!!
So, I've said enough for today. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. But,
I can always send it later. Now, things for you to consider and reply
to me;
consider a joint team dinner with the Airtran ski club
go to our new website, pay or renew your dues, print several flyers,
post said flyers
consider a lake cruise during our No-Brainer
come up with ideas for beanies, and a flag/banner.
Thanks again everyone for all of your support and patience. Have a very
Blessed and Merry Christmas! And, a Safe and Happy New Year.
I'll see all of you in Jackson Hole next month!!!
Sincerely,
Forrest"Woody"Stearns
