Sequence of events, specific to Northstar
This info was put together by Shelley Mateu for us!
Remember - If you're coming as a single or with your family you can
always do whatever you want, you don't have to stick to any schedule.
The parties and Apres Ski are when we usually get together. As a kid, my
family did NAASF ski weeks (mom worked for Pan Am, then United). I
remember being babysat while mom & dad & friends went to the
parties (thanks mom). Other than that we did our own thing.
Usually by Sunday we've coordinated with who's in town so far. We'll walk over to register together at some point on Sunday evening (you'll buy lift tickets AT registration). We'll probably grab dinner or eat at someone's condo Sunday night. We'll decide when we'll meet up Monday morning and
go get rentals (if needed - I get my ski's FedEx'd to the condo). From
there, everyone will ski with whomever they want (the race course may be
set up and you can go check it out if you want to). We'll usually hook
up for lunch, but not necessarily (some people don't stop for lunch, but
will start drinking earlier). We'll ALWAYS meet at Apres Ski (Happy
Hour) every day after skiing at the ice rink where the deals are. (I
plan on going to the condo to drop off skis/boots, change shoes, and
head to the ice rink.)
Where's registration??
The
registration (LAST TIME) was located by the blue "i" information on the
lower half of the map by the Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar.
There's an empty space ("Open Space Available") and that's where it was
before.
Monday night we'll meet up at someone's condo and all walk over to the Welcome Party (location unknown as of now).
Tuesday
skiing is the same and you can try the race course (either of the two
that will be set up) or you can actually run the Newcomer's race (your
family can, too!). Snowboard Race is on the same course. Apres Ski at
ice rink, meet up at a condo or a restaurant (To Be Determined) for Team
Dinner.
Wednesday
is ski racing. If you want to race, you can & so can your family
(only employee's score counts for team points). You do not have to race
at all. Wed night is
the big party. They
haven't said where this party will be, but I'd bet it's at the same
place as before & you'll take the Gondola up to it. The theme is
"All Sports" and I'd bet the food will be something you can get at a
stadium - pizza, hot dogs, burgers, etc. I remember it being really good
food & lots of it.
Thursday is same for races and Apres Ski and then
the Awards Banquet (location unknown at this time).
I
know there's a small place at the Village for groceries (if you get a
condo, you'll want food for the week), but it's resort prices. Someone
else making a run for groceries may take you if you're nice and offer to
pay for gas. (More details below.)
Ski lockers/storage. If you don't want to carry them to/from the condo (I promise it's not terribly far...but if you're the dad and carrying your kids' stuff, I feel ya!), I bet you'll be able to find someone to share the overnight locker with you. OR - They do provide FREE overnight storage, first come-first served, near the Gondola building. If you look at the map below, all the way at the top you'll see the main gondola. To the right you'll see the a place called The Chocolate Bar. BEHIND the Chocolate Bar, in itty-bitty writing, you'll see the free overnight storage.

Safeway grocery is pretty much around the corner from the main area
and they said it's walkable...no. It's 6.1 miles away...I checked it
out. It's in the next town of King's Beach. Map below. Check out "Plan C."
Plan A - Rent a car - but that SUCKS for only one day's need of a grocery run.
Plan B
- There's also the bus system, TART (funny name and appropriate for
some...I'm just saying!) - Tahoe Area Rapid Transit. They said you'll
have to switch busses at some point to get to Safeway...ugh! Plan C - Bum a ride from someone else & pay them for
gas. That'd be me. I just rented a car for myself at carrentals.com. It's the smallest one available and it's from Sunday to Friday. $185.
The
shuttle from the airport to the resort will be discounted (trying to
get the discounted rate for NAASF Ski week), it's still cheaper than
renting an SUV for the week especially when you only need it for one day
& one thing (grocery run on Sunday).
